Michelle Malkin on Arlen Specter

Just because he debates like a girl doesn’t mean we have to…

Syriana

Syriana What business does any self respecting conservative have watching Syriana. It was available on Netflix instant stream and I was curious. The movie was well done, good acting, moved along well, and so on. I would not call the politics anti-American as some have said. Pro-Islamic may not describe it either. The movie does not paint the evil caricature of Islam we so often see. It tries to "present" possible reasons for terrorism if you are inclined to buy it. Are they selling it? Knowing the leanings of some behind the movie, I suspect they are selling but I don't see it as over selling (maybe that would be too obvious). Can American politics and corporate interests synchronize their agendas and perpetrate atrocious deeds together? I think so. Has America and corporate interests adversely affected other nations at times? It would be naive to think otherwise. Syriana does not lay all of the blame for lack of Arab social progress (what is progress) on any one party. But in the end, Conservatives are big on personal responsibility so I can understand their objection to laying any of the blame at the feet of another. Picturing America as never doing wrong would be a distortion and many Conservatives insist upon it.

The movie is worth watching but try to fit the US government blowing up some progressive sheik and letting Osama bin Laden slide in the same sentence and keep a straight face. Maybe there is a conspiracy that needs bin Laden for a convenient enemy. Yes, this is a belief by some creative personas. It may be more anti corporation/capitalism than anything and that is always popular. And how exactly does Loony Clooney end up finding said sheik in the middle of the desert so quickly? Keep your disbelief suspender handy.

UN climate chief admits mistake on Himalayan glaciers warning - Times Online

The UN’s top climate change body has issued an unprecedented apology over its flawed prediction that Himalayan glaciers were likely to disappear by 2035.

UN climate chief admits mistake on Himalayan glaciers warning - Times Online

Comments: But the discussion is over. The "science" is in.
"It emerged last week that the prediction was based not on a consensus among climate change experts but on a media interview with a single Indian glaciologist in 1999. That scientist, Syed Hasnain, has now told The Times that he never made such a specific forecast in his interview with the New Scientist magazine."

Are We Quaking More and Liking It Less?

Let's look at 2010 so far.
Using USGS statistics, they show the annual average of Richter 6.0 and greater quakes is 152. We've already racked up 10 events in the first two weeks this year. If this trend continued, we would see 260 significant shakes – 71% increase over the norm – and the seismic events plotted below would literally be off the chart.
For Mag. 7 quakes, we're off to a ripper start with TWO events in the first 12 days of 2010. On average, only 17 Richter 7's strike annually. First the Solomon Islands were hit with a 7.1 on Jan. 4. Then just eights days later a 7.0 devastated Haiti.

Cell phone radiation may fight Alzheimer's... in mice

The possibility that cellular phones have an impact on human health has generally been viewed in terms of the potential to do harm, primarily by inducing or promoting the growth of cancer. But a study that will be published by the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease may turn that all on its head. The study examined the performance of mice that received a daily dose of radiation similar to that produced by cell phones, and found that, over a period of several months, their memory improved. When the same procedure was performed with mice engineered to be predisposed to Alzheimer's pathology, it was actually able to reverse some of the cognitive decline.

Comments: Could you be a Christian and like Ted Kennedy? Anything is possible. But one could not be a Conservative and like the political Ted Kennedy, it is a virtual impossibility. Conservatives must feel at least some slight vindication (for lack of a better word) at current developments in Massachusetts politics. Is this a real trend, really?

Pat Robertson – Haiti, Let’s Make A Deal

Comments: Is there any truth to this "devil pact" in Haiti's history? The link below provides some context. Proof will not be soon coming.

Most Haitians are Roman Catholic, while a growing number claim to be Protestant (estimates range from 20 to 30 percent). But surveys have found the vast majority of Haitians – regardless of religious affiliation – hold at least some Voodoo beliefs.

It is often said that during this ceremony, Haiti’s soon-to-be leaders made a pact with Satan, dedicating the land to him in exchange for victory.

This story is taken as fact by many Christians, both Haitian and non-Haitian, and is often given in response to the question, “Why is Haiti so poor?” Because this is a profound statement with serious consequences for Haitians in terms of how they are perceived by others and how their nation is understood, it is worth examining. Religion In Haiti « Northwest Haiti Christian Mission

What makes this “controversy” interesting? Chances are great that Pat Robertson’s organizations do more to assist Haiti than all of his mouth foaming critics combined. Perhaps the Obama’s can shift a portion of their annual charitable giving to Haiti. Of course zero is hard to divide. However B.O. can now donate YOUR money so all is good. Utopians are always more concerned with words than deeds so this offers them a wonderful opportunity to grasp for the high verbal ground.

Pat Robertson believes (I assume) in spiritual or extra dimensional forces affecting our dimension. Such belief is foreign and uncomfortable to many of us. A spiritual world view will always conflict with a material only mind set. This does not make Pat Robertson’s statements accurate but it does make them understandable. National cursing (whatever that involves) is not only an Old Testament concept. A short trip through the Book of Revelation puts that to rest.

Robertson concluded with, they are suffering and need our help. Probably this part will be excluded from most high ground discussions. And it is an important position. After all, what power do we have over national cursing. Some Christians believe prayer works. Others quote

2 Chronicles 7:14 (New King James Version)

14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

But this would be an unpopular position and would draw the Pat Robertson critics out of the woodwork. It is just too condemning.

Now, did Robertson go into great detail about God's curse on Haiti? Nope. He simply used the phrase "they have been cursed by one thing or another." Nor did he say this was God's wrath. Can some spiritual reason cause Haiti's miserable existence over time? I personally believe it is possible. Is this earth quake a result? Who knows? But how much of the devastation is due to shabby building procedures and impoverished infrastructure? And how much of this can be traced back to something more sinister?

OMG Global Cooling!

The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.

Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in
summer by 2013.

Is God playing a trick on Al Gore?

Jesus Christ - 'two most explosive words,' says Hume

He recognizes that openly expressing faith in Jesus Christ offends a lot of people. "People rage about this," he said. "It's very offensive to those who don't share the faith, [and] it's offensive to some people who claim they do share the faith. This is to be expected, and it has been happening to people who proclaim their faith in Christ for as long as anybody can remember -- this is part of the deal."

Jesus Christ - 'two most explosive words,' says Hume (OneNewsNow.com)

Comments: Brit Hume gets it. Jesus Christ is a stumbling stone for those who will not believe.

Romans 9:33 (King James Version)

33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Surprisingly this comes as a shock to many Christians. The great white hope Ronald Regan and then (I’m a Christian) George Bush and who can forget born again Jimmy Carter, all were expected to bring Jesus Christ into main stream acceptance. No luck. I guess the Bible did not say Jesus Christ will be a stumbling stone unless and until you elect a Christian leader.

The world (sounds big) will hate you.

John 15:18-176 (King James Version)

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

Hearing Brit Hume’s comments one can not help but remember the words of Jesus Christ.

Mark 8:38 (King James Version)

38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Luke 9:26 (King James Version)

26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.

Good for you Brit Hume.

Geithner’s Fed Told AIG to Limit Swaps Disclosure

AIG said in a draft of a regulatory filing that the insurer paid banks, which included Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Societe Generale SA, 100 cents on the dollar for credit-default swaps they bought from the firm. The New York Fed crossed out the reference, according to the e-mails, and AIG excluded the language when the filing was made public on Dec. 24, 2008. The e-mails were obtained by Representative Darrell Issa, ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Critics of Obama way off base on this one

The criticism has included such childishness as blasting Obama for waiting a few days before making a national speech on the incident.  For heaven’s sake, the president was briefed on the incident from the moment it occured; he made statements almost immediately indicating his concern and that he was being regularly briefed; he took time to gather the facts and meet with his national security team; and then he appeared publicly to give a rational, measured, but hard-hitting response.  And for this, a former vice president criticizes him.

Comments: And let’s remember, President Obama didn’t give a “shout out” before he addressed the issue, thereby further displaying his sincerity.

CHART OF THE DAY: How The Government Payroll Replaced Goods-Producing Jobs

In the just-so story of the evolution of our economy, our old manufacturing based economy has been replaced by an innovative knowledge economy. That's not quite true.

In fact, the decline of the jobs in goods producing sectors of the economy--construction, manufacturing, mining and agriculture--has largely been met with an increase in jobs on the government payroll. We've gone from providing jobs in profit-making private industry to providing jobs in profit-eating government work. Toward the end of 2007, the total number of government jobs exceeded the total number of goods producing jobs. Welcome to the government payroll economy.

France to introduce new law banning 'psychological violence' in marriages

Married couples in France could end up with criminal records for insulting each other during arguments.

Under a new law, France is to become the first country in the world to ban ' psychological violence' within marriage.

The law would apply to cohabiting couples and to both men and women.

According to the International Monetary Fund, the United States began the century producing 32 percent of the world's gross domestic product. We ended the decade producing 24 percent. No nation in modern history, save for the late Soviet Union, has seen so precipitous a decline in relative power in a single decade.

Zohar And The Arrival Of The Jewish Messiah In 2012

This last Wednesday on Coast to Coast AM, people were particularly taken with comments I made about the 700-year old Zohar predicting the arrival of the Jewish Messiah in the year 2012.

Ancient orthodox Jewish prophets in the Zohar had predicted the arrival of their Messiah in the year 2012. The Zohar is widely regarded the most important work of Jewish Kabbalah.

So both the 700-year old prophecies of the Jewish Zohar and 870-year old prophecies of the Catholic St. Malachy focused on the timeframe 2012, with very similar predictions of the rise of a “Messiah” combined with the destruction of Rome. Read entire article >>

Although the Bible is the only 100% accurate source for prophecies, it is interesting to read the ruminations of other religions when it comes to end-time matters. Some agree with the Bible while others don’t. The return of the Messiah has no time stamp in the Holy Bible for a reason. God does not want us to know. Those who think they do will hopefully learn this lesson as 2012 comes and goes.

Russian space chief Anatoly Perminov's grim warning over asteroid that could 'kill millions'

The head of Russia's space agency either knows something we don't - or there's something in his Tang.

Anatoly Perminov stoked up some hysteria Wednesday as he sounded the alarm about an asteroid called Apophis that is hurtling in the general direction of Earth.

"Peoples' lives are at stake," Perminov told a Russian news agency.

"We should pay several hundred million dollars and build a system that would ... prevent a collision, rather than sit and wait for it to happen and kill hundreds of thousands of people."
