Thou Shalt Not Sun Tan
FOXNews.com - Women With Suntans Will Be Arrested, Iran Police Chief Warns
Women with suntans are violating Islamic law and will be arrested in Iran, the capital city's police chief was reported by The Daily Telegraph as saying Wednesday.
"The public expects us to act firmly and swiftly if we see any social misbehavior by women, and men, who defy our Islamic values," Brigadier Hossien Sajedinia said.
"In some areas of north Tehran we can see many suntanned women and young girls who look like walking mannequins," he continued. "We are not going to tolerate this situation and will first warn those found in this manner and then arrest and imprison them."
Comments: The peaceful approach. Listen, when individual acts threaten society, something must be done. Let's start in Hollywood and work out from there.
Oh, and is this ironic? FOXNews.com - EXCLUSIVE: U.N. Elects Iran to Commission on Women's Rights

Oprah Winfrey Deal With Procter and Gamble May Rock Old Advertising Business Model - ABC News
P&G, the manufacturer of dozens of household name brands like Tide, Crest, Tampax and Pampers, committed to a deal reportedly worth more than $100 million over three years. The agreement, which includes the purchase of time and integration into programming, is unprecedented in that Winfrey's network (OWN for short) will not be on the air until January 2011, does not yet have a full programming lineup and has no audience and therefore no basis for ratings, reach or demographics.

Ubuntu 10.04 Available Tomorrow
Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu
What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu is an operating system built by a worldwide team of expert developers. It contains all the applications you need: a web browser, office suite, media apps, instant messaging and much more.
Ubuntu is an open-source alternative to Windows and Office.
Comments: Ubuntu is becoming better and better. Version 9.10 was snail slow on the Internet until you specified OpenDNS as the DNS servers and searching for this fix was curiously allusive but hey, that's Linux.
Why even bother? Meh, no reason except a dual boot might just make life easier when/if Windows melts down. And Knowing something about linux is not a bad thing. Wubi makes installing a dual boot of Ubuntu easy as pie. I wonder if Wubi for 10.04 will be out tomorrow as well?

Noah’s Ark PaleoBabble Update
Posted by MSH under: Ancient Sites; Bible; Noah's ark.
This is a sad post for me. Read on and you’ll know why.
Fox News reported today about a joint Turkish-Chinese expedition that claims to have found Naoh’s ark on Mount Ararat. Part of their proof is the picture below, which purports to have been taken inside the ark. Allegedly, the wooden beams carbon-date to 4,800 years old. Would that be cool or what?
Now the sad part. I also got an email today from one of Randall Price’s students. The email contains a message from Dr. Price about this expedition. (Dr. Price, as some of you may recall, has been doing a lot of searching for the ark lately.) Here is an excerpt from his message: >>> Follow the above link.
Comments: So it is a fake, let me show you my shocked face.
I'm shocked I tell you, shocked!

Giza Tube Controversy
Giza's Tomb of the Birds Sealed Shut
What Lies Beyond the Stone Tube?
Whether or not the caves do reach the Second Pyramid, as the radar satellite imagery suggests, might now never be known. During our own explorations we came to a halt in a compartment beyond which was a narrow horizontal tube that appeared to connect with an even deeper section of the caves. Yet due to the stressful circumstances that had brought us to this moment, and the fact that my wife Sue had clearly heard something moving about beyond the tube, we had decided against venturing further. Strangely, Richard Gabriel and his partner Judith also came to a halt at this same spot, and decided that it was not the right time to press on without suitable preparation (he had seen and photographed various dangerous looking spiders, some arguably the size of camel spiders).
Comments: At first Egyptologist Zahi Hawass said there was no discovery, no caves, no problem.
But now the entrances of the non existing caves look like this:
So what are they hiding?

What I was walling in or walling out,"

"Hide The Decline" Pulled From YouTube
Rumor has is that under a Michael Mann threat of lawsuit, YouTube has pulled the original "Hide The Decline" video. A replacement has been submitted (but still missing).
For those more technically oriented:
Which has led me to another interesting guy. He looks young to me. Maybe he missed the "young people love socialism" memo. Or maybe he is not young enough.

Christianity's Surge in Indonesia
Christian Revolution in Indonesia: Religion Spreads - TIME
Instead, in the heart of the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, Christians held a Pentecostal revival, complete with faith healing and speaking in tongues. As a tropical downpour fell, believers' tears mixed with rain — and a line of sick and disabled took to the stage to claim they had been cured by a God they, like Indonesian Muslims, call Allah.
Comments: We could (and some do) get bent out of shape at Christians calling our Christian God Allah. Technically there is a huge difference. But I wonder if we would be missing the forest for the trees? However we see it, the Indonesian Christian surge seems significant.

To young voters, socialism isn’t a bad word
To young voters, socialism isn’t a bad word - The Boston Globe
But it’s not that the youngest voters don’t know what socialism means. It’s that most aren’t scared of it — and find it bizarre that, decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall, a political movement would center itself around opposition to it. The fact that both the tea party and the Republican Party have made vociferous opposition to “socialist’’ policies a key part of their rhetoric helps explain the tepid response among young adults.
Comments:
The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history.

French Leader Sarkozy Slams Obama, Warns He Might Be Insane
French Leader Sarkozy Slams Obama, Warns He Might Be Insane | EUTimes.net
A new report circulating in the Kremlin today authored by France’s Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE) and recently “obtained” by the FSB shockingly quotes French President Nicolas Sarkozy [photo top right with Obama] as stating that President Barack Obama is “a dangerous[ly] aliéné”, which translates into his, Obama, being a “mad lunatic”, or in the American vernacular, “insane”.

Comments: We are hearing of this insanity from different places. Are they unfounded attacks? I have always considered Progressives to be delusional so maybe we have the King of delusional.

Another Interesting Ronald Reagan Moment
Michio Kaku: A Second Big Bang in Geneva? - WSJ.com
It's sobering to remember that this could have happened in the U.S. Back in the 1980s, President Ronald Reagan pushed to create a Superconducting Supercollider just outside Dallas, Texas. This machine would have been three times larger than the LHC and would have maintained U.S. leadership in advanced science for at least a generation. Congress allotted $1 billion to dig the hole for the Supercollider. Then it got cold feet and cancelled the plans in 1993, spending another $1 billion to fill up the hole. U.S. high-energy physics was set back an entire generation and has never recovered. So today the Europeans can brag about being the world's leader in advanced physics.
