Every tenth Chinese is Christian | Världen idag

Every tenth Chinese is Christian | Världen idag:

Today, two Christian faiths are allowed to operate within carefully prescribed limits: the Catholics, who number about six million, and the Protestants, who operate under the Three-Self Patriotic Movement. Their numbers are estimated at 21 million – about the population of Australia. All other Christian associations are illegal.

Recent surveys calculate the number of Christians worshiping independently of the State churches in China to be as high as 100 million. That means that almost one in every ten Chinese may now be a Christian, making Christianity bigger than the 74 million-member Communist Party.

Way too early for Americans to be comparing ourselves to Communist China, Mao's Cultural Revolution and any upcoming purge or pogrom? Maybe. But a bed rock of the current house church structure in China was established by Watchman Nee and his Little Flock. I am struck by the flourishing of Christianity under persecution in China. But is this always the case. Was it so in Russia? Nee's grass roots Christianity seems unstoppable. Huge cathedrals in Russia today are basically museums and they emptied easily under old edicts.

Watchman Nee fanatically opposed denominational-ism. He opposed laity/clergy divisions. The Little Flock apparently had no need for church hierarchy because they directly followed the Lion of Judah.

Will we need Gorilla Christianity in our future? Or possibly you have not noticed that if you hold opinions contrary to our current socialist administration you are on the terrorism watch list.
