ROME (Reuters) – An Italian scientist says he has reproduced the Shroud of Turin, a feat that he says proves definitively that the linen some Christians revere as Jesus Christ's burial cloth is a medieval fake.

I’m sad to see it go, not because I thought it was necessary proof of the crucifixion but because I love a good mystery. Things were looking dim when the carbon 14 dating put the shroud around 1300. Complaints about a contaminated sample were weak. Why would not a larger sample be submitted? The shroud is large and a one foot piece would be easy to submit. This reproduction with 1300’s technology buries the last argument that the shroud has never been reproduced. It could rise again of course.
This is a non-event in legitimate Christianity. I personally don't know a single Christian who believed the Shroud of Turin was authentic or even cared either way. If your faith has been shattered, one must inquire ... faith in what? Many Catholics are big on this type of "miraculous" material. Protestants are normally cool to stigmata like happenings. For some people, the Shroud of Turin will always be authentic regardless of any disqualifying evidence. Such is the conspiratorial mind set.
